Peggy's Week in Review July 27

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. The weather was fabulous. I spent it weeding my garden and touring ACW with my husband and our dog Luna, becoming more familiar with the boundary of our beautiful township.

Last week I attended the The Seniors Active Living & Wellness Fair (organized by the MacKay Centre - Dungannon), which took place on Thursday, July 23, 2026. I spoke with many service providers and community volunteers and learned a lot about the challenges of aging in general, but especially in rural communities.

I had not previously considered how isolating farming is on a person's mental health. I did know the importance of social engagement and aging, but now have a better understanding of the challenges many of our aging farming residents face, or may face. Retaining their driver's license is a huge issue and lifeline.

I'd like to thank our MPP Lisa Thompson and Mayor Glen McNeil for their opening remarks to set the tone for the day. I'd also like to thank the many sponsors, service providers and friendly community volunteers that served us a lovely lunch outside. I wish I had taken more photos. The bright fresh cut flowers on the picnic tables outside was a very nice touch too. And last but not least, congratulations to those that attended and want to learn more about aging well. I hope you all walked away more empowered about making decisions about your future.
